Chris Brown doesn’t seem to be breezing his way out of his London case, even after three years.

The musician has pleaded guilty to charges of affray over the incident that took place at London’s Tape nightclub in 2023. With this guilty plea, the “Under The Influence” singer could potentially be faced with years of jail time.

Chris Brown is no stranger to arrests and controversies, especially the highly publicized physical assault case with his then-girlfriend, Rihanna, almost two decades ago.

Chris Brown Finally Goes For Guilty Plea In Three-Year-Old London Assault Case

Brown appeared in court on Friday, July 24, where he pleaded guilty to a charge of affray with his vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, by his side. The prosecutors have dropped the more serious assault charges against the singer and his vocal coach. They, however,  described the incident, which took place at a nightclub in London three years ago, as a bottle attack on a producer.

The musician and Akinlolu stood in the dock at the Southwark Crown Court in London, where they confirmed their names and entered guilty pleas over the February 2023 incident. Pleading guilty to affray means they are admitting they “used or threatened unlawful violence toward another ab their conduct, taken together, was such as would cause a person of reasonable firmness… to fear for their personal safety.”

Akinlolu and the popstar had previously been charged with attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm and a less serious charge of assault causing bodily harm to the victim, Abraham Diaw. The pair previously denied the claims and were due to stand trial by October.

Prosecutors Intend To Prove That ‘No One Is Above The Law’

According to prosecutor Heidi Stonecliffe, the other charges would not proceed to trial, and the pair were granted bail ahead of their sentencing. It should be noted that the maximum sentence for affray is three years’ imprisonment, and Judge Tony Baumgartner said that “all options” would be open to the court, as reported by Reuters.

“This kind of violence is entirely unacceptable, and ​the Crown Prosecution Service ​will work tirelessly – with ⁠the police and partners across the criminal justice system – to pursue cases like this, and prove that no one is above the law,” Claire Campbell from the CPS said in a statement.

Campbell also stated that the incident involving Brown and Akinlolu was a “vicious and unprovoked” attack. Prosecutors alleged that the singer struck Diaw with a tequila bottle and continued to attack him as he tried to flee.

Chris Brown Recently Suffered A Huge Legal Blow

It seems as though Brown’s past is beginning to catch up with him, as he was recently ordered to pay $13 million to his former housekeeper. The civil case was brought against him after a dog attack took place in his California home, leaving his ex-housekeeper, Maria Avila, with injuries.

A California jury reached the verdict on June 30 after the two-week trial. The singer and his company, Black Pyramid LLC, were ordered to pay Avila the lump sum in damages. The other plaintiffs, Avila’s sister, Patricia, and her husband, Oscar Olivo, did not walk away empty-handed either. They received over a million dollars in damages as well.

During the trial, the former housekeeper testified that the dog attacked part of her face and arm and dragged her a certain distance. She noted that she was scared for her life and went to see the musician after the painful incident. The Blast reported that, as per Avila’s testimony, Brown did not call 911; instead, he asked his team to do it.

The Singer Previously Denied The Charges

Brown was arrested by local authorities on May 15, 2025, at The Lowry Hotel in Manchester. The London Metropolitan Police confirmed that he was taken into custody on said day in relation to the allegations of causing bodily harm to an individual and that the case was under investigation.

As previously shared by The Blast, the musician appeared in Southwark Crown Court with his legal team, a few weeks after his arrest, to enter a plea. During the court session, which took place on June 20, 2025, Brown confirmed his identity and date of birth before entering a plea of “not guilty” to the charges.

Before this court appearance, Diaw had claimed that he had served Brown with two lawsuits at his L.A. home in February and April 2024, which he failed to acknowledge. Diaw requested for $16 million for treatment, damages, and losses he suffered during the attack. He claimed that he suffered head injuries and torn ligaments and had included clips from the night of the assault to back up his claims.

Just last month, a woman was arrested for breaking into the singer’s Los Angeles residence. A 911 caller confirmed that a woman had broken into the 6-bedroom, 10-bathroom home around 5:55 p.m. The Los Angeles police department, however, established that the woman did not make it into Brown’s residence.

The suspect, whose identity was not revealed, was taken into custody for trespassing. The Blast shared that Brown also suffered two other trespassing incidents in May. An unidentified man allegedly hopped the fence into the singer’s home and attempted to start a fire.

As reported by The Blast, the man was taken into custody, and hours after his release, he returned to the scene of the crime only to be arrested once more. Brown made headlines that same month after one of his security guards allegedly fired a CO2-style weapon during a confrontation with a woman.
