A Chicago woman accused of killing and dismembering her landlord and then hiding some body parts in a freezer was convicted late Monday of all the charges she faced, according to multiple local reports.
Sandra Kolalou, 37, has been in custody since late 2022 on charges of first-degree murder and concealment of a homicide. Kolalou, who rented a room in a boarding house in Chicago’s northwest side owned by 69-year-old Frances Walker, killed her landlord after she was served an eviction notice, prosecutors said.
She was arrested and charged on Oct. 10, 2022, hours after other tenants contacted police to report Walker had gone missing.
Later that day, police found Walker’s head, arms and legs — but not her torso — stuffed inside a freezer at the residence. Blood was found inside Kolalou’s room.
According to investigators, Kolalou pulled a knife on a tow truck driver, who took her to Montrose Beach, on Chicago’s lakefront. She then reportedly left a heavy bag in a trash area.
On Monday, following a six-day trial and nearly eight hours of deliberation, a Cook County jury found her guilty on all counts, according to Fox 32 Chicago.
As the verdict was read, around 9:30 p.m., Kolalou didn’t show any emotion, local television station WLS reported. Some of the victim’s family got emotional and began tearing up.
“We miss Frank a lot. She is the person no one can say anything bad about at all,” the victim’s sister, Maggie Walker, said.
Her younger brother, Arnold Walker, told reporters he believes justice has been done.
“I’m glad society will be a little bit safer without this person out there,” he said referring to the guilty verdict.
Kolalou, who testified in her own defense, told jurors she would never hurt a “hair on Frannie’s head,” according to the Chicago Tribune.
She’s scheduled to be sentenced on June 20.
