Chelsea transfer news: Out-of-favour Blues player will not push for exit?

2 weeks ago 11

One of Chelsea's exiled players reportedly has no intention of trying to push through an exit from Stamford Bridge.

An exiled Chelsea player is reportedly content to remain at Stamford Bridge until the January transfer window.

As the summer progressed, the Blues put together an increasing list of players who were not involved in the plans of Enzo Maresca.

At one stage, there were around 15 squad members who were training away from the senior group, that having been reduced in due course.

Upon the end of the summer transfer window, eight were left, but that has since dropped down to five partly due to the big-money sale of Angelo Gabriel.

Cesare Casadei and Carney Chukwuemeka will also be reintegrated back into the first-team fold, but the future of Ben Chilwell remains very much in the air.

Chilwell takes Chelsea stance

Co-owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital would naturally like to see the England international take up an opportunity at a club who can still purchase players.

The market remains open for teams in Greece and Turkey, albeit at a time when squad registrations for UEFA competitions must be finalised on Tuesday.

Nevertheless, according to Football Insider, Chilwell is in no rush to make a desperate attempt to sign for a new club.

Chilwell is seemingly prepared to bide his time in West Londoners, despite having been told by Maresca that he will not earn any minutes.

Marc Cucurella and Renato Veiga are ahead of the 27-year-old in the left-back pecking order, while other players are capable of deputising if required.

Maresca change of heart?

Maresca has already shown on countless occasions during his early Chelsea reign that he is prepared to take somewhat of a ruthless approach to making decisions.

The Italian determined in the opening weeks of pre-season training that he was not of the opinion that Chilwell could adapt to his style of play.

Theoretically, using Chilwell in Europa Conference League fixtures could benefit all parties, as well as hand rests to Cucurella after a hectic summer.

However, there appears to be no prospect of senior action for a player who was named vice-captain during Mauricio Pochettino's time at the club.
