The capital region is expected to hit a frigid spell this weekend.

Environment Canada says the light snow is expected to taper off through the day with steady temperatures around -1 C. There’s a 40 per cent chance of flurries Thursday night. Winds gusting to 40 km/h could make the temperature feel like -14 overnight.

Things start to get seriously chilly Jan. 3, with a 40-per-cent chance of flurries and a high of -6 C, feeling like -16 in the wind. Friday night’s low is expected to hit -16 C.

Saturday’s looking like a mix of sun and cloud, with a chance of flurries.

But the high is expected to be -11 C.

The low should tumble to -19 C, the weather office says.

It’s expected to be another chilly day Sunday, with a projected high of -11 C, with a chance of more flurries.

The low is forecast at -16.

The weather’s expected to perk up a little Jan. 6, with a high of -8 C under a mix of sun and cloud.

Monday night’s low should be around -12 C, Environment Canada says.
