According to Sky Germany, Bayer Leverkusen's management currently has two names on their shortlist to potentially succeed Hjulmand.

One new name as such is Filipe Luis – club CEO Fernando Carro and Simon Rolfes are particularly keen on Luis as an option.

The duo even tried to bring him to the Rhineland club as a player. He was most known for his stints at Atlético Madrid and Chelsea.

Since taking over as coach of Flamengo, the 40-year-old has lead the Brazilian club to a Copa Libertadores triumph in 2025.

However, Michel – the current coach of FC Girona – is also being monitored closely by Leverkusen's management.

Oliver Glasner is still in the mix given no top side has approached him, still a return to the German topflight seems unlikely.

While the decision is not yet final, indications suggest Saturday's match against Hamburger SV will be Kasper Hjulmand's last, writes Kicker.

Although, his former assistant and long-time technical advisor to the club, Keld Bordinggaard, is expected to remain at the club.

"He will continue to work for us," said Rolfes when asked, after reports that Bordinggaard had been forced to vacate his office.

However, Rogier Meijer could soon leave Leverkusen, given he is highly regarded as the future head coach of Sparta Rotterdam.

One thing is certain – a new coach should bring not only a possession-based approach but also passion and energy – qualities that apply to all three candidates.

Furthermore, a decision should be made as quickly as possible so that squad planning can be finalized promptly.
