Bild: Neuer and Bayern agree to postpone decision on goalkeeper’s future

Bild report Manuel Neuer wants to see how his body reacts to his recent muscle tear before deciding on his future.

According to Bild, Manuel Neuer asked Bayern Munich’s management to wait for him a bit longer before they discuss future plans. This comes as the 40-year-old goalkeeper seeks to first evaluate how his body reacts to the recent muscle tear.

Bild confirmed that Bayern’s top brass agreed with Neuer’s inquiry. The popular publication expects no decision before the return leg fixture against Real Madrid in the Champions League in mid-April.

The former German international is currently working on his comeback at Säbener Straße. On Friday, he celebrated his 40th birthday with best wishes flowing from all corners of the footballing world to one of the most iconic shot-stoppers.

Christoph Freund already suggested Bayern are open to Neuer’s demands in a recent interview. “There's always an exchange (with Neuer), which is very good. Let's see what April and May will bring. What's important is what his gut feeling and his body tell him as he's seeing if he feels he can play at this level for another year," said Bayern’s sporting director.

In an interview with German Press Agency (dpa), fellow former German goalkeeper Andreas Köpke predicted one more year for Neuer between the sticks. "I believe he'll continue for another year. And I would like that to happen," said the World Cup and Euros winner.

“It would be good for Urbig if he could learn more from Manuel (Neuer). This would allow him to gradually grow into Neuer's big shoes.”
