The United States paved its way to the gold-medal game with a 4-1 victory over Czechia on Saturday night at Canadian Tire Centre.

The U.S. will now face Finland in an attempt to win consecutive gold medals at the tournament for the first time.

In the preliminary round, former Ottawa 67’s winger Tuomas Uronen scored in overtime as the Finns handed the U.S. its only loss in the last two years at the World Juniors.

Czechia will take on Sweden for the bronze on Sunday.

Getting the job done for the Americans once again were first-rounders Ryan Leonard (Capitals) and Gabe Perreault (Rangers).

They opened the scoring 3:14 into the opening period when Leonard did the legwork down the right wing boards before making a diving pass to Perreault, who showed a fine finishing touch to beat goalie Michael Hrabal.

Blues prospect Jakub Stancl, who scored the winner to eliminate Canada in the quarterfinals last year, tied it up for Czechia near the midway mark, before Islanders first-rounder Cole Eiserman built on his strong tournament by putting the U.S. back in from 13:41 into the second period.

Teaming up again for the insurance marker 4:27 from the end of the third were Leonard and Perreault, this time with the latter setting the former up for a tap-in.

Chicago Blackhawks first-rounder Oliver Moore iced the victory with an empty-netter 67 seconds from the final buzzer.

The Czechs outshot the Americans 27-25 as Trey Augustine stood tall in the U.S. net.
