The Atlanta Dream wants to finish this WNBA season as champions, and they’ve brought in reinforcement to try and get the job done. New reports reveal that 2x champion and 6x All-Star DeWanna Bonner signed with the Georgia-based team on a rest-of-the-season deal just ahead of the WNBA postseason.

DeWanna Bonner Has Signed With The Atlanta Dream

The Atlanta Dream announced today that Bonner, 39, signed a rest-of-season contract worth $116,000. Bonner’s addition comes amid her contract buyout with the Phoenix Mercury, sources told ESPN.

News broke that Bonner and Phoenix had agreed to a deal earlier this week, allowing her to sign with a championship contender in what could be the final postseason of her career.

Multiple teams had their eyes on Bonner, including the Las Vegas Aces and New York Liberty; however, the Dream have reportedly expressed interest in her for years.

Speaking with the media, Phoenix general manager Nick U’Ren said that because of the franchise’s relationship with Bonner, they were able to work out a deal that gave her a chance to “chase a title in what could be her final postseason.”

Bonner also spoke about the move, expressing her gratitude to Phoenix for allowing her to try to finish the 2026 season with a massive victory.

“At this stage of my career, I don’t know what the future holds, but I’m grateful to the Mercury for giving me the opportunity to play in what could be one of my final postseason opportunities,” she said. “The fans, this community and the Mercury organization have embraced me throughout my career, and I’ll always be grateful for that.”

DeWanna Bonner Joins Atlanta Dream Ahead Of The Playoffs

Bonner’s signing with the Atlanta Dream comes just days after the Georgia-based team clinched a playoff berth.

This is the Dream’s fourth straight trip to the WNBA playoffs and is reportedly being “powered by one of the WNBA’s most effective starting groups.”

According to a recent press release, the Atlanta Dream has established itself as one of the league’s “most complete teams, ranking third in scoring and fourth in net rating while boasting a top-four offense and defense.”

Angel Reese Recently Had Career-High Game With 31 Points

According to a previous report from The Blast, Angel Reese had a career-high night against Phoenix Mercury just last week, scoring 31 points. Her previous high was 27 points during her rookie season with the Chicago Sky.

After the game, the LSU alum spoke with the media about her performance and said she’s been focused on improving her game above all else.

“Just staying poised and not letting anybody speed me up,” she said.

The 24-year-old added, “I think I’m at my best when I’m around the basket, so just staying confident in the shots I know I can make around the basket, the shots that I work on in practice. Just taking my time and finishing those. I knew they were going to step up and trap or hedge our guards, so I knew I was going to be open down low. I just had to finish.”
