Angel Reese has done it again. After recording another double-double against the No. 1 Minnesota Lynx, Reese set the WNBA single-season record for double-doubles. In just her third year, Reese continues to rewrite the record books, cementing herself as one of the league’s most dominant rebounders and most consistent forces in the paint.

Reese etched her name into the WNBA history books during today’s game, recording her 29th double-double of the season. The LSU alum scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to set the new single-season record. Alyssa Thomas previously set the record in 2023.

Reese spoke with the media about her historic third year and said she’s happy to keep proving those who doubted her wrong. “I dream so big, and I think there’s no dream that is so big. So many people write me off. So many people have doubted me. Coming into the league and being the seventh pick, nobody thought I was gonna be able to be in this position, but I knew. And the people in my circle knew,” she said.

Angel Reese Says She Was ‘Destined’ For This Moment

Reese is the best rebounder the league has seen, and she’s proven it time and time again. For the 24-year-old, the bright lights and high expectations aren’t intimidating; she said she was made for moments like this.

“I was supposed to be in this moment, and it was destined for me. So, it really doesn’t surprise me. I’m just really grateful, and I’m thankful. I don’t take any moment for granted at all, because this is an opportunity of a lifetime, and a lot of people really, really wish they could be here. So, I’m really grateful, and I’m really excited. So every milestone, every record is just destined to knowing who I am,” she stated.

Angel Reese Set A Single-Season Franchise Record Days Ago

Setting and breaking records isn’t new for Reese, considering she’s led the league in rebounds since her rookie year in 2024. Her third year, though, and first with the Atlanta Dream, has been different for the Maryland native, and it’s all thanks to her coach, Karl Smesko.

“He’s very intentional with my development, even with my rebounding,” she said. “I thought I was a great rebounder before and (he’s) very intentional about how I can be … better. He talks about the (Sacramento) Monarchs and how they will win the best rebounding teams in history. He wants me to be a part of that and our team to be that too. … It’s just a matter of time you’ll be able to see the results.”

Atlanta Dream Fans Are Singing Reese’s Praises

Atlanta Dream fans erupted on social media after learning Reese had set a new record, rushing online to celebrate and sing her praises.

“Angel Reese breaking records in her third year when she wasn’t even supposed to have an impact in the W! Overlooked, undervalued, and constantly disrespected by so many, yet look at her shining!” someone wrote.

Another user posted, “I don’t know who needs to hear this, but Angel Reese is an absolute superstar.”

Reese Is Making History In Her Own Shoe

Reese is making her mark on the league while also playing in her signature shoe.

On August 31, Reese will release two new colorways of her signature shoe, the Angel Reese 1.

The Aqua and Metal Green colors will come with a TPU stability cup, advanced technology, a breathable upper, and Reebok’s Energy Return System.

“My style has always been about versatility, having fun and wearing what makes me feel confident, and I bring that same mindset to every new design.
