Rodgers appears to be preparing for what could be the final chapter of his NFL career.

Speaking to reporters on 28 July, the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback suggested that his 22nd season in the league is likely to be his last. When asked whether there was any possibility of returning beyond this season, Rodgers delivered a firm response.

“No. Zero debate,” he said, shutting down speculation about extending his playing career.

The 42-year-old explained that retirement had already been on his mind before circumstances changed. According to Rodgers, the arrival of Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy played a major role in convincing him to continue for one more year.

“I thought last year might be it, and then Mike got hired,” Rodgers said, adding that the opportunity to work with McCarthy helped influence his decision.

Rodgers also revealed that he discussed the choice with his wife before committing to another season. He recalled her encouraging him to give football one final shot and see how things unfolded, which ultimately helped him decide to return.

“I talked to the wife, and she said, ‘You can do one more year and see if it works out,'” Rodgers recalled. “And then it kind of all came together.”

McCarthy officially took over as Pittsburgh’s head coach in January, beginning a new era for the franchise and setting the stage for Rodgers’ latest campaign.

The upcoming season follows Rodgers’ first year with the Steelers. Before arriving in Pittsburgh, he spent a brief stint with the New York Jets after an iconic run with the Green Bay Packers, where he established himself as one of the most accomplished quarterbacks of his generation.

While Rodgers remains one of the NFL’s most recognizable figures, he has kept details about his personal life largely out of public view. Although he confirmed he married in 2025, he has never publicly identified his wife.

“Because I do things in private, because I want my personal life to be private, now I’m weird,” he said.

During another appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” in March, the quarterback joked that staying in shape remains important to him because “I want my wife to want to f-ck me all the time.”
