2. Bundesliga: Osnabrück deny Kiel first win of the season

Tim Walter's Holstein Kiel entered the international break without a single win after a home draw with the newly-promoted Osnabrück side.

The referee Tom Bauer distributed three yellow cards inside the first ten minutes in a physical start to the game. There were two more cautions before the first goal of the game from a penalty-kick.

Searching for their first win of the season, Kiel finally found the breakthrough with a lucky break in injury-time after another underwhelming half of football. Osnabrück’s goalkeeper Jonas Krumrey was at fault as he brought down Gyan de Regt inside the box. Phil Harres converted the resulting penalty for his fourth goal of the season.

In contrast, the second-half was full of action. Osnabrück equalized with 20 minutes to go as Hiroki Sekine beat his own goalkeeper in his attempt to block a cross from Jonathan Gómez (Jogo).

David Zec damaged Kiel’s hopes of regaining their lead as he was sent off three minutes later. The Slovenian needlessly pulled the shirt of an opponent when he was already in the referee’s book.

Kiel welcomed Steven Skrzybski as the veteran attacker made his first appearance of the season, but they went into the international break still looking for a maiden win. Tim Walter’s side finished four of their six games in stalemates.

For the newcomers, it’s their first draw back in 2. Bundesliga as they sit in ninth place with seven points. Timo Schulz’s men started the campaign as outright favorites for a relegation, but they showed resilience in the first couple of months.

Kiel’s next game will be in Braunschweig, while Osnabrück entertain Dynamo Dresden when 2. Bundesliga return after the international break.
