In a frantic start to the game, Magdeburg took a two-goal lead within the first 15 minutes. Emmanuel Iyoha put his new club in front in the 12th minute as he matched his tally from his last couple of seasons at Fortuna Düsseldorf in matchday 5.
Alexander Nollenberger doubled the advantage for Petrik Sande’s side less than five minutes later. Baris Atik joined the scoresheet in the half-hour mark with a classic counterattacking move, but the goal was disallowed by VAR for a foul on the buildup.
However, Kaiserslautern’s defense was all over the place, and they conceded the third early in the second-half. After keeping four clean sheets in the first four rounds, Julian Krahl was beaten by Iyoha for the second time.
The 28-year-old all-rounder finally scored his very first 2. Bundesliga brace in his 208th appearance. Magdeburg started the season with a 6-1 home defeat, but they have now climbed to third in the table. Kaiserslautern suffered their first defeat of the season.
